World Language Perspective: SPAN 211

I was in Spanish 211 in the Fall of 2019. I enjoyed that the class was largely discussion based because it helped me utilize new language skills. The group work with classmates also helped me use Spanish in real conversation. We did different IPA assignments that usually had a written question portion and a portion where we would use a different platform to present in Spanish. In one presentation a partner and I made a video where we would go around Farmville and Longwood and talk about different places in town and their significance  in our community. That helped me learn because I was using Spanish to talk about things that were familiar to me and I was able to make real life connections. The most challenging part of this class was memorizing vocabulary that I wasn’t using in conversations or presentations.

For an artifact from this course I chose a written portion an IPA assignment. For this assignment we were instructed to watch a movie that was in Spanish and answer questions about it. This assignment helped me realize that I learn by doing things and utilizing skills is real circumstances rather than watching and listening to information or in this case, a new language.
