Global Citizenship or Aesthetic Perspective: MUSC 331 History of Music 1

In Fall 2019 I was in History of Music 1. It was heavily lecture based and it was challenging to learn music history that way. I found it difficult to memorize dates of composers and the types of music they would write. I did enjoy listening to how music has evolved throughout history because that helped put a sound to a date or a period of time. I learned that my learning style is not best suited for lecture based learning and that I had to work harder to learn about different composers and their musical contributions. I found it easier to retain information from the textbook when I took notes on the reading and reread the notes later.

I chose to include a paper I wrote about the composer Claudio Monteverdi on November 19th, 2019. the paper goes into how he helped define the early opera.
