Historical & Contemporary or Behavioral & Social Perspectives

For the historical and contemporary or behavioral and social perspectives, I took HONS 320: Markets and Morals with Dr. Blincoe in the Fall of 2019. This class explored the different types of economic systems, specifically socialism, capitalism, and distributism. This course challenged me to think about each type of system in a way that I would not have otherwise done. It allowed me to explore the different types of economies and the basics of each as well as the different pros and cons of each.

This class was particularly challenging for me because it required a lot of devotion outside of class completing assigned readings, but the most challenging part of the course was having to “argue” with my professor. This was something completely out of my comfort zone and very new to me. While I struggled most with this aspect of the class, I persevered and did better than I thought on my arguments. I did not do as well as I would have liked, but I did better than I expected and was pleased.

My biggest takeaway from this course was not only the knowledge of the different types of economic systems, but also the ability to professionally have a “persuasive discussion” with a superior. This is a skill I will use with me throughout the rest of my professional career.

Below is my artifact of notes I made in preparing for my final discussion with Dr. Blincoe. It was written by me, Kelsey Bomar, on December 11th of 2019.
