ENGL 265: Writing and Rhetoric Citizenship

I took English 265 the Fall 2019 semester. This class was about learning how to write papers in different fields and how to incorporate citizenship into them. My professor, Dr. Taylor, assigned us to write papers in MLA, APA, and Chicago style format. When I first found out that I would have to write papers in a format other than MLA, which at the time was the only format that I had ever used, I was worried I would not do good with other formats. Before coming to college I had only written papers in the Humanities which use MLA format. When Dr. Taylor said that we would have to write papers in the different sciences, and use APA and Chicago format, I knew that it would be challenging to write papers using something other than what I was used to. However, after writing the papers and receiving help from my professor, it was not as challenging as I had originally thought. The thing that was most challenging was writing a literature review. It was a totally new concept that I had never experienced before, but I was thankful that I was able to get a taste of what it would be like to write a literature review because I knew that I was going to have to write literature reviews in the future.

My artifact is the literature review that I wrote in this class. This was one of the first literature reviews that I wrote and it gave me a chance to experience the process of writing a literature review. As far as improvement on this assignment, I think I could improve a lot on many different aspects. I think I could have done more synthesizing of the different studies instead of just summarizing them. Even though there was definitely room for improvement on this assignment, I think I did a good job for writing a literature review for the first time.

Below is a link to download my, Kelsey Bomar’s, literature review. It was written in October of 2019.
