Bodies and Citizens

In this foundation level course, we learned the impact one’s body has had on citizenship in the history of the United States. We the impact aspects of the body- like race, gender, disability, nationality, and much more- have had on citizenship in the past. Weekly, we were assigned readings that would reflect upon and discuss as a class. These discussions were one of my favorite parts of this class because everyone had something to add, whether it was a personal experience or an additional fact someone had found before class. Especially towards the end, there were a few presentation based grades as well. With plenty of advice beforehand, these presentations were a nice transition to learn public speaking skills in a comfortable setting.
