Education 245
Fulfilled: Honors Course
This course was one of the first within the education portion of my Liberal Studies major. It was special before I even came into the classroom because it signified the beginning of me moving directly towards my goal of becoming a teacher. Once within the class I reviewed many theories and their respective creators I had heard three times over in high school. I began to read about the three topical areas of development and then the different age ranges. None of this was new; however, as the class continued, I began making connections between the different portions of material. I saw patterns and relationships between the different theories I had never noticed before.
The course took all my previous knowledge and some new material combined them, and made something amazing. I could finally see the children that these theories related to and how they combined to explain portions of an individual. Before this class had been handling puzzle pieces separately. Throughout Child Development I combined them, found missing ones, and finally saw the picture on the box take shape. I finally saw the child in child development. Although I still have much to learn, if I can continue to apply these connection making and relationship discovering skills then I can become the understanding teacher my students have always deserved. When they have problems I will not be limited to looking at each theory wondering how they apply. I can look to the student and more fully understand them as whole through a theoretical frame work. Below is the final essay of the course in which I came to these conclusions.
Child Development Theories in Practice by Taylor Bauer was created on April 25th, 2017. The above paper is the final product of a semester-long learning experience. The work contains the many connections formed, new information attained, and conclusions reached by the end of the course.
