Community

Community to me is a group of people with all different types of backgrounds, mindsets, ideals, values, and goals being able to live together and help each other. All these people can come together and help one another to achieve their goals even if we do not all understand them. So all these people are able to create an environment where it is mutually beneficially to everyone to help one another no matter the circumstances.

I think that Longwood is like that in a lot of ways because as students we come from all different places and have different personalities, but when we come to Longwood University we have a shared common value of learning. So when I come to Longwood I feel like I can connect with everyone there through our shared situation in which we want to learn and work to become a better citizen through our education. So my experience at Longwood with community has been a situation of us all coming to a place and not really knowing anything, but being able to understand each other through a shared experience.

I found people like me in this community by joining HSA and connecting with honors students who wanted to all help each other. I also joined Phi Sigma Pi fraternity because I wanted to connect with more people that were trying to create a more unified community around them.
