Human Behavior and Social Institutions

Course: Education 245 Human Growth as Function of Social, Political and Economic Institutions (Fall 2019)

I took the course Human Growth as Function of Social, Political and Economic Institutions in the Fall semester of 2019. I was looking forward to this course because it was the first Education course I got to take, and as an education major it was extremely exciting for me. This was the most engaging and interesting course I took in Fall 2019, and I felt that I learned so much that I will be able to apply when I graduate. I think beyond just knowing how to teach, you should know about children and how they develop as well in order to teach effectively.

The biggest part of the course was our “Three Ages Project”. This was a ten-page paper where I was required to interview 3 different people from different age groups. I interviewed a 4-year-old, a 10-year-old, and an 18-year-old, and I asked all three of them the same set of questions to see how they responded differently based on the different stages of life they were in. Though I was taught about how children are different during each stage of development, this project allowed me to reflect on their differences and think about what could cause them to respond differently. This is important to know as a future educator because every grade level and age will be different. Though this project took a lot of time and effort, it allowed me to see and learn more about childhood development.
