In Dr. Melanie Bowman’s FREN 110 course, I found myself constantly immersed in both French language and culture during the lecture and lab portions of this class. While focusing intensely on language skills, Melanie also made sure to emphasize the importance of learning the culture of France and Francophone countries/territories.

I enjoyed the various layers of this class – Melanie catered to all learning styles by providing in-class activities ranging from speaking activities, worksheets, and group work, which both challenged and nourished my experience as a French-speaking student. I was given opportunity to work outside of my comfort zone with others, but also to demonstrate my strengths when it came to written work or worksheet assessments.
