2Honors has taught me how to love going out and helping my community. I must admit, in high school, I only did volunteer work because of the required hours. I mean, sure, I was helping people, but I didn’t see the real meaning behind it. It wasn’t until the honors retreat that I started to see the purpose. I was part of a group that was working with habitat for humanity. They told us all about the woman they were building the house for. It amazed me that hundreds of volunteers had come throughout the year to help build the house for this woman on their own time. Once we left the house, I found myself on the bus thinking “Wow. We really helped today. We helped build someone’s home. So many memories will be made there and because of us and other volunteers, this woman won’t be without a home. “I loved the feeling of knowing I had made even just a tiny difference in my community by giving just a few hours of my time.
