My name is Sara Jane Anderson. I am a junior nursing major in the Cormier Honors College and I am set to graduate in 2021.
I want to be a nurse because I want to be there for patients and their families when they feel like things couldn’t be going worse. As a nurse, I want to bring even a little bit of happiness to patients and their families. I want them to see me as someone they can trust and not just a random face in the sea of medical staff. I want to establish strong, trust based relationships with my patients. Being in the hospital can be scary, so to a patient, the slightest smile or squeeze of their hand can bring them more comfort than you think.
Once I graduate with my BSN and I get my nursing license, I plan to work in the emergency trauma department. I am a quick thinker and I am able to assess a situation and determine the best plan of action. I want to work in trauma because no cases are the exact same. It could be a mundane night shift and all of a sudden the entire unit can be running around helping a victim of a car crash. Nurses save so many patients and reassure so many families. I want to be able to make a difference in peoples lives and be a part of their recovery.
