I took Love, Sex, and Friendship as an Honors course during the Spring 2018 semester. In the class, we read a variety of books and passages relating to different kinds of love. While many of the passages and books were difficult to read, one of my favorite books was Symposium by Aristotle, which consists of speeches about love from a few philosophers as they sit around drinking.
In this class, I was challenged to become a better reader and writer, reading passages which include language that can be quite confusing at times, understanding what I could of the passages, and responding to them in papers. This helped me think more critically, as I would have to come up with a thesis for each paper and explain myself even when I did not fully understand the readings.
The class also allowed me to be open to my classmates differing opinions. Class discussions allowed students to share ideas and opinions about the books and passages, and at times helped each other understand the readings. The more that was said about a topic, the easier it was to understand the topic and create my own views.
Here is my Reflection for the Book Symposium by Aristotle.
