American Literature was a very enjoyable class during the second semester of my freshman year due to the reading material.  I was very intimidated by the class because there was a lot of reading every night for homework, but the books, plays, and poems were interesting and this helped me finish my readings.  Each class was a discussion of the assigned reading and hearing different perspectives, opinions, and predictions was always interesting, and my professor, Dr. Challender, provoked thought by asking us questions.  During the semester, I also really enjoyed the writing aspect of the course.  I wrote two journals where I expressed my thoughts and analyses of the books and plays, and a more focused and specific research paper in addition to the midterm and final.  Here is one of my journals:
